Whoa Whoa Whoa!!!!  Latest drop from DJ Eclipse on his mixcloud page...real real dope stuff!!

DJ Eclipse: "Although not technically a show from the 90's, this show from 2000 was 4 hours of unreleased gems many dating back to the 90s. Riz and I subbed for Bobbito who wasn't there, but left us with Lord Sear as well as What? What? (Jean Grae) and Mr. Len for comedy relief (63:57). Riz set off the first hour of the show with promo only vinyl releases (not commercially released). Then after the comedy break I played 3 hours of demos (71:00). This was before Serato and even CDJ's so all demos were played one after another old school style from tapes and cds. Some sound great and some sound like 100th generation dubs. Some of these have since been released, but many still have not. Last mic break at 230:47"

Dope episode with Big Noyd, Ty Nitty and Big Twins from Infamous Mobb as well as the Jigmastas and Skam2?. First mic break at 9:43 with Noyd. Funny, one of the announcements was for the Fat Beats Big Noyd in-store at the OG location which was supposed to happen in two days, but never did cause Noyd ended up on the lam. Noyd, Nitty and Twin freestyle at 16:03. After that, Riz on the wheels with joints until 53:39 where Kriminal and SKAM2? (aka Skam The Inhumane) freestyle. At some point during the freestyle session DJ Spinna hops on the decks. Then right after the freestyle session there's a dope set of originals (64:23) which I'm still trying to figure out who spun. I pause taped it so there's no mention of who it was, but the general consensus after asking a couple people is that it may have been DJ Muro. Oh, and excuse the excessive static near the end of the show. Must have been a rainy night.  Thanks to DJ Eclipse for the tape rip!!

Merry Christmas everyone! Here goes another Halftime show from '98 with guests Eminem and Royce Da 5'9" (85:53). Short interview right into the freestyle session (if only cats today were as hungry as the 90s generation). As usual, Riz sets off the show lovely and then half way through I get on to finish up. Always good listening to the mic breaks to see what was going on during that time (i.e. Tramps shows, Fat Beats in-stores, new mixer...thanks Fat Beats!) (52:25). So much good music played. Here's an hour and a half of a 2 1/2 hour show. Sounds like I edited (or pause taped) some of this when recording. First mic break at 24:20 with Mayhem and Sunset before they bring on Lauryn Hill (26:29) who was there to promote the Hoodshock concert which took place in Harlem the next day (http://www.nydailynews.com/archives/n...). During L Boogie's interview you hear her say what's up to Bahamadia who had just walked in. Bahamadia makes her appearance at 57:49 and gets into a freestyle at 62:00. Last mic break at 71:39 before Mayhem loads up some exclusives. A little radio interference as usual to make the tape sound official. Shout out to Riz, Sunset and Mr. "Making It Happen" Mayhem.

The latest offering from DJ Eclipse via his mixcloud page, more dope radio tape from his archive.

It's kind of frustrating that since mixcloud changed up their script, its impossible to extract the original source file that had been uploaded, in DJ Eclipse's case, he always uploads 320kbs, nice high quality.  Since mixcloud then streams it at a shitty 64kbs thats all we can then listen to or extract as an mp3 file.  I feel these tapes need to be archived in the high quality 320kbs that they are originally being ripped in instead of the lame output from mixcloud.....but what can ya do eh???.....frustrating!!!!! :(

"This very well may be the last airing of The Hip Hop Spot. It ended in August of '95 and I'm not sure if I have any past this date. As well, you can hear Steve and Riz talk about having to play clean versions as if people from the school/station were now laying down new rules. No guests during these 90 minutes, just mic breaks at 50:20, 82:46 and 87:08 with Riz on the wheels except for the last 8 or 9 minutes when Cipha Sounds hopped on. Oh, and some occasional airplane interference. Gotta love living near an airport."

"Busy busy busy show right here. After Lynn and I crack the mic to make some announcements (26:10) such as Channel Live, Ced Gee and Gang Starr Fat Beats in-stores, we had our first group of the night, N.O.T.S. Click up (29:04). Freestyle session starts at 32:07. Next mic break (64:35) Lynn and I set it off with some rules and regulations of the show. Sounds like we had too many people just showing up that night. Shortly after that though Polyrhythm Addicts get on for an interview. Then at 71:33 we have an ill freestyle session with Polyrhythm Addicts, L-Fudge, Kriminul and Fudge's man Yogi all while DJ Spinna cuts it up. Last group of the night is All City (116:00) who start rhyming at 119:12. We close out the show at 142:49 and of course there's a lot of dope music being played by me and Riz all in between these mic breaks."

"Riz spins the first half as always and then I jump on at 92:39. Mic breaks come at 25:46 and 145:03 along with Lynn Gonzalez. At 29:40 we have guests Willie Stubz & Natruel who quickly get into a freestyle session. The highlight though comes at 56:42 when Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest get on the mic to promote their new LP "The Love Movement". Scratch that. The highlight actually comes at 60:00 when Q-Tip decides to do a 15+ minute off-the-top freestyle while Riz plays a medley of instrumentals. So dope how he freestyles the history of the group. Great listen although not without some minor turntable technical difficulties here and there. Man, Riz and I were so picky (and still are) when it comes to how precise we want the mix to sound. It always drove us crazy when there were technical issues."

"I've got some good news and some bad news. The good news is here's another dope Steve & Riz radio show with guests Mic Geronimo, Kyze and O.C. The bad news is my tape ends right when O.C. starts to freestyle. Riz rocks for almost an hour before Steve does his first mic break (51:39). Shortly after that a reggae set takes place (55:10) to promote a reggae event they were announcing. At 74:30 Steve gets back on and then Riz gets back into Hip Hop. Next mic break (91:12) Steve introduces Mic Geronimo (& Magoo aka Irv Gotti) for an interview then Mic jumps into a freestyle (105:25). Riz plays some more after that then Kyze is the next guest up (137:48). His freestyle is at 155:19 then Riz gets on once again. End of the show brings us O.C. (176:48) right into his freestyle (189:27) that unfortunately gets cut off."

Another gem from the crates of DJ Eclipse......

This "NY Live" episode is from 3 days after Biggie was killed. The first time the mic is cracked (23:44) you can feel the tension in the air over Big's death. And every artist that came up that night touched on the subject as it was obviously the headlines in NYC that week. Joe Summa from One Step Beyond was the first guest up (68:18). The next to touch the mic after Joe was another NYC, NYU favorite, Half-A-Mill (90:48) who ironically was also gunned down years later. One of his rare demos "Unpredictable" premieres at 99:16. Closing out the show was Stronghold's own Breez Evahflowin' (107:18). Outside of the somber mood in the studio was an always on point DJ Riz who provided a dope selection of music cut up as only he could.

Another DJ Eclipse archive tape....

Here's the first ever episode of The Halftime Show. Riz and I stepped to Lynn Gonzalez who at that time had the Wednesday night slot and asked her if she wanted to join forces. After some initial hesitation she agreed and thus The Halftime Show was born. Unfortunately Lynn wasn't able to make the first show, but in her place was T.O. Sweet who had his own show on WNYU. Listening back the show was definitely a little rough around the edges, but we made it work. Riz spun the first half of the show and I spun the 2nd half (70:33). We had A-Butta and L-Swift of Natural Elements as our guests (92:44) which led to a couple dope freestyle sessions (96:16 & 104:25). Mr. Len from Company Flow was hanging out with us in the studio as well. This was before Serato and CDJs so every time we had to play an exclusive we would have to stop the mix to throw on the dat. A lot of the music played represented what was also going on at Fat Beats at the time. The good ol' days.
